Blowing Bubbles

Picture
Blowing Bubbles (50" x 18" x 1")

Artist Statement

This mosaics explore the threshold between what is and what is about to change. A bubble is neither solid nor void, but a boundary between air and water, light and shadow, presence and disappearance. Within each bubble, unseen forces hold opposites together. Molecules stretch across difference, making connection possible where separation would otherwise remain. In this way, the bubble becomes a metaphor for balance in tension, a harmony in the in-between.

Christina van Barneveld

My artistic practice explores how we form, break, and reform connections. As a child of Greek and Dutch immigrants, I honour their traditions and adaptation. Through light, colour, and story, my mosaics invite reflection on belonging, resilience, and transformation, inspiring viewers to consider their own journeys of connection.
