Reinterpretation of the Rally Cry for Research
Artist Statement
Art is a process to re-envision research. Inspired by black-out poetry, this call to researchers, especially women, honours lost knowledge from nature and beyond the borders of academic science provoking a new awareness of what is most needed for the human and non-human aspects of our world.
Artists
Gina Marin is an artist and graphic designer. Her works are deeply rooted in personal family history and experiences, and exploring relationships, homes, cultural heritage and personal identity. She creates a bridge between past and present, evoking a sense of nostalgia, reflection and connection.
Jillian Jurimae is enrolled in Sculpture at Lakehead University. She is a Registered Nurse who cares deeply for her community. Her practice of creating art revolves around conversations about the human emotional landscape and our connection with and to the ecosystems and its inhabitants we share a home with.
Kristen Jones-Bonofiglio is an emerging artist, a registered nurse, and a compassionate leader. Her art is inspired by collage, colour, and contrast. She looks for ways to bring her authentic self to her work and believes that research can be “me-search.”
Michelle Spadoni is an artist and nurse. Her work is deeply rooted in story, a generative space of reflection and memory. Tracing the threads that create the tapestry of the landscapes of her life. She draws on poetry, sculpture, collage, photography and historical artifacts.
Clara Juando-Prats is a mother, a dog lover, and a social scientist using creative practices to visualize knowledge grounded in the relations between humans and non-human beings. Ink and watercolor play with each other and are intertwined in a festival of expression and exploration to breathe, grow, and imagine.
Cathy Schoales is a mother, grandmother, sister, nurse, and artist using art to visualize ideas and stimulate reflection. Using multimedia, to create art to build connections between people and generations to foster unity and belonging. She believes that art encourages people to engage in the world in new ways.
