Storms of Change

Artist Statement
What can we learn from the Arctic world as climate change, global warming and encounters with he industrial era become more common? The iconic presence of a snowy owl flying through a scene of scintillating ice shards signals sweeping changes. The owl finds itself engulfed in a storm quilted pattern of the Golden Mean. Is there a way out of this maelstrom? With no means of escape, it forges on, braving the storm, searching for the light of the midnight sun to guide its way. Two questions arise from these visual incidents: How do we adapt to sweeping changes in our environment and how do we incorporate the ideas of art and ecology into our research and teaching agendas? An animated film, Cry of the Wild, captures the charm and beauty of the Arctic, the survival of wildlife, and the Will to live. |
