LAKEHEAD RESEARCH EDUCATION GALLERIES
Submission Call is Closed. Please check back in January 2022.
This year, Lakehead University’s Research and Innovation Week (March 1-5, 2021) will launch an online exhibition of research-related artworks in tandem with our annual exhibit. We are inviting works that describe, interpret, promote, and reference research in any scholarly field responding to Lakehead University’s 2021 Research and Innovation theme, Our Changing World.
About the theme:
We've all heard the catch-phrases: In these unprecedented times, we are all in this together, to try to flatten the curve, while adjusting to a new normal. Our world is changing, but living through a global pandemic has radically changed so much of our daily lives. We look to scientists, political leaders, artists, and intellectual thinkers for direction, as they work tirelessly to improve health and well-being, drive us toward social equity, and aid us in discerning fact from fiction. These are uncertain times, but as we pivot in these uncharted waters, we look to research and innovation to help us understand and appreciate this new world.
We specifically invite forms of inquiry used for teaching, learning and research. Educational research artworks are investigations that are sustained inquiries, whether formal (i.e., university research projects) or informal (i.e., personal investigations), that may be funded by research agencies, likely have a cause or social justice intention, or may have other intended dissemination formats (i.e., journal publications or public talks). These works intentionally seek to raise awareness of phenomena in the hopes of positive development.
For this online exhibition, we welcome national and international entries. We invite images, videos, and feature projects. Images: We invite photos of 2-D or 3-D art (300dpi or higher). Videos: Please send a link to your research slideshow or video (maximum 4 minutes or please discuss with us. If accepted, we will require a file in MP4 format). Feature Project: Please send a link and describe 3 of the works in the proposed project. The submission process requires title, year, media, dimensions, a 50-100 word abstract or artist's statement, a 50 word bio, and a link to further information about your project if available.
All submissions are juried.
