Artist Statement

These four pieces depict the holistic and dynamic realities of nurses’ lived experiences via the journey of crows and constructs of time/seasons, language/words, and shadow/light. The intention is to offer a common metaphor to create a conversation. The crows symbolize many dichotomous concepts of uncovering and recovering.

About the Artists

Created by Registered Nurses (RNs) Kristen Jones-Bonofiglio, Jillian Jurimae, Cathy Schoales, and Michelle Spadoni to represent the juxtapositions of contemporary, post-COVID realities of nursing practice, research, education, and leadership. Based on decades of scholarship on compassion, social norms, social identity, moral distress/injury, burnout, belonging, resilience, safety, and hope.
