Visualizing the Open Access Landscape: Climate Change and Lake Superior

Artist Statement

This work depicts a network of articles that have been retrieved from an Omni Library search on the topic of climate change and Lake Superior. Within the network, articles that have been published open access are brought to the forefront. Articles that have been published behind a paywall are blurred, unreadable and constrained. This work visualizes an open access landscape: What information is missing because it exists behind a paywall? How does open access publishing contribute to equitable access to scholarly information?
