Artist Statement
This work is part of an Arts Integrated Research project led by Dr. Pauline Sameshima. The research focuses on the deeply subjective experiences of yoga teacher trainees. The data reveals that many of these experiences share common elements relating to trust, transformation, and sharing. The three open-centered and inter-dependent segments of the artwork reflect the multifaceted and dynamic elements and flow between the self (trust/vulnerability), the act of learning (growth/transformation), and the journey of teaching (sharing/learning). This sculpture mixes needle-punching with repurposed used bicycle tire tubing and fabric.
